The laboratory studies basic problems of glycobiology, with a focus on new medical applications. The main directions comprise synthesis of oligosaccharides and glycoconjugates, carbohydrate-protein interactions (lectins, antibodies), carbohydrate-carbohydrate interactions, structure elucidation of carbohydrate chains from glycoproteins, immunomodulating action of carbohydrate chains, search for and study of human cell carbohydrate receptors, directed synthesis of inhibitors of viral and bacterial adhesion, selectins, and immune response to carbohydrate antigens.
